Wedding schedules don’t always take into account the position of the sun. So many other things take precedence – like when your venue is available and what tone you want for your celebration. A brunch wedding (and I love brunch weddings) is clearly not going to include sunset portraits ;) But for engagement sessions, it’s wonderful to have the freedom to take advantage of the best light. My favorite light is closest to sunset or sunrise, the soft pastel light when the sun is just below the horizon or the dramatic golden glow when the sun is low in the sky.

Caitlin and Tom opted for a sunrise engagement session at Duxbury Beach, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to photograph. We met on a cool October morning, with a nearly-full moon still lingering in the sky. Given the early hour, we had the beach to ourselves – an empty canvas to fill with their love.
